Time Goes By

I can't believe how long it's been since I've posted. So much has happened. The main thing is, I lost my husband in January. After twenty-plus years suffering from emphysema, he succumbed to the disease in January. The past two years were pretty rough. In 2023, he was in the hospital three times with a collapsed lung, and walking became an effort, so we bought him a scooter. He got around quite well on it and even continued to drive. I backed the car out of the garage, and he rode the scooter down the ramp my son built for him, got in the car, and off we went. Usually to church, where I used a wheelchair for him. Other times he drove me to the store. I am quite capable of driving, but it got him out of the house, although he stayed in the car. Nothing unusual for him, he always stayed in the car even when our kids were little. He hated shopping and didn't care how long I was in the store as long as he didn't have to go in. In September 2024, he was in the emergency room twice with pneumonia, and the doctors suggested hospice care. He agreed and went downhill from there. In two weeks, he was completely bedridden. His wish was to be here for Christmas, and God granted that for us. Although he slept through most of it. The kids were here, and some of the grandkids. When we were doing our white elephant gift exchange, he woke up and started singing. Just one line, and no one could quite understand what song it was. The only word we understood was church. He immediately fell back to sleep. God took him home at 11:48 pm on January 5th.

Needless to say, life isn't the same without him, and I miss him so much. I know he's in a much better place, walking and breathing easily. I've started going to the Senior Center and recently started volunteering there. I need to keep busy.  I also started making bags (tote bags), and my daughter-in-law has been selling them for me at work. One of the women asked if I could make bucket hats to match. I wasn't quite sure how to do it, but I found a pattern and figured it out. So that's another way I've kept busy.

We knew when he was diagnosed that the disease would eventually take him. I just praise and thank God we had 62 years together. I've been so blessed.
